Felix Briones, Jr. began legal practice in Farmington, New Mexico in 1959 and is currently in practice with his son, Paul Briones. He has received many awards during his career. Felix was selected as the first recipient of the New Mexico State Bar Professionalism Award, and he was the recipient of the University of New Mexico School of Law Distinguished Achievement Award. In 2011, Felix was honored by the Office of African American Affairs of New Mexico as a recipient of its Senior Recognition Award; in 2010, the UNM Law School selected Felix as one of the featured alumni to be included in its 60 for 60 book honoring “people, contributions and things that have shaped law in New Mexico;” and in 2012, the UNM Law School created the Felix Briones Scholarship for Ethics and Professionalism.
Felix has been very active in his community and was a founder and continuing board member of Four Corners Community Bank. He has served on the Sunwest Bank Board and the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority and headed the Community Reinvestment Act Committee. He also served as the past President of the San Juan College Foundation Board, on the Public Utilities Commission for the City of Farmington, and on the University of New Mexico Foundation. He was Chairman of the New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission (JPEC) for 13 years and and served six years as a member of the State Bar of New Mexico Disciplinary Board. He has maintained ‘Preeminent Lawyer’ status with Martindale Hubbell for over 30 years. Fellow: American Bar Foundation and New Mexico Bar Foundation.

Born in Farmington, New Mexico, Paul Briones attended Eastern New Mexico University for two years before transferring to the University of New Mexico, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Economics. Paul graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1996. Paul practices law at Briones Law Firm with his father, Felix Briones, Jr.
Paul served on the Board of Directors of the Farmington Boys & Girls Club, 2001 to 2014 (2011 President); New Mexico Board of Bar Commissioners; New Mexico MCLE Board; New Mexico Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission; Chairman of the Farmington Citizens Police Advisory Commission. Since 2011, Paul has served on the board of the Four Corners Foundation. Paul also received the Quality of Life Award from the New Mexico State Bar in 2000.
